Gaa With a Twist
We were told in third year that we would not be doing a musical production like all previous Transition Years. This was a huge disappointment to us but as soon as we got into T.Y. in september we started brainstorming things we could do instead. Mr Coughlan wrote a script for us depicting the changes ireland had from the norman invasions up to the GAA. Casting began soon after.
The first act of the show depicted old Ireland, an Ireland rifled with conflict up to the founding of the GAA. The second act focused on the immigration and the Irish Diaspora featuring plays such as Many Young Men of Twenty and Philadelphia Here I Come. And the third act was parts of several well known musicals such as Grease and All Shook Up. I played the part of Gar O'Donnell for a scene from Philadelphia here I come. I really enjoyed this experience though i felt it didn't go very well on the night. The was mistakes made with not having enough microphones which lead to the audience not being able to hear what was being said and I feel that the audience didn't grasp how Eoin was meant to be portraying my inner thoughts due to hm forgetting his lines. Reflection Overall I was disappointed with how the show went. I feel with another week of rehearsals and having it on for more than one night we could have performed a much better show but i am glad we did it and I did enjoy it. |
